Daphne Meyer
Haitian
Daphne Meyer was born on March 11, 1966 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She studied Graphic Arts, at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale (FL) and Visual Arts, at the Université du Québec in Montréal. She also took part in sculpting and bronze casting in Creuse, Hossegor and Mornac sur Seudre, France. Art is her playground, her place to be curious, to learn, to engage her mind and her hands. Influenced by both naive art and artists such as Jean Dubuffet, Niki de Saint-Phalle, Angel Botello, and Fernando Botero, Daphne often express herself in forms and colors that are generous and contrasting. Her curiosity quickly led her to mix techniques and materials to give interest to the characters that populate her creations. She is drawn to the subject to the unrealistic, “the Alice in Wonderland” perception of things. Meyer focuses on ideas that do not make perfect sense, but resonate on the emotional level, through bold shapes and colors.
